Ratios, rates, proportional relationships, and units: practice and worksheets
Use ratios, unit rates, proportions, and unit conversions to compare quantities and solve real-world problems.
Concept overview
A proportional relationship keeps the same multiplicative rate between two quantities. You can represent it with equivalent ratios, a table, a graph through the origin, or an equation of the form y = kx.
Key points
- Find a unit rate by dividing one quantity by the other and keep the units attached.
- Use the constant of proportionality to move between tables, graphs, equations, and contexts.
- Convert compound units one factor at a time so unwanted units cancel.
Worked example
If 5 notebooks cost $12.50, the unit price is 12.50 ÷ 5 = $2.50 per notebook. At the same rate, 8 notebooks cost 8 × 2.50 = $20.
